Useless info article: HOW TO KILL LIVE RATS
A rodent infestation is never a welcome experience; best case scenario, it’s nauseating for your wife and an annoyance for you. Worst case scenario, however, it can be a health hazard for your family. Clearly, when you have rats in your home you’re going to want to get rid of them. Here are five humane ways to do so-

Asphyxiation via C02

Considered the most humane method of ridding your home of rodents, using C02 to get rid of those pesky rats is not easy.

You’ll need to get some white vinegar, baking soda, a container for the rat to die in and a bag and cup for the vinegar and baking soda.

Put the baking soda in the bag, place a cup full of vinegar in the bag (without spilling the vinegar), and connect the euthanasia chamber and bag with a hose.

Put the rodent(s) in the death chamber, seal the bag and spill the vinegar onto the baking soda.

CO2 is produced and travels into the rat’s chamber, knocking it out and killing it peacefully.

Blunt Trauma
• The goal here is to kill the rodent with one swift, accurate hit to the head.

This can be a little daunting for some folks; if you doubt whether you can kill it with one blow and not freak out, consider other options.

Some methods that may come to mind are putting the rodent n a bag and smashing it against a wall or the floor-that’s not really the best way to go.

If you decide to go with this technique, get a rubber mallet and corner the rat; make sure you get one, clear shot to his head.

Spring Traps
• The classic “snap-traps” are always a great method, and are still considered one of the more humane traps.

It doesn’t really cause pain when it is sprung correctly.

Just go out to your local hardware store or Wal-Mart and purchase a few sturdy traps, follow the directions on the box, and check them regularly.

Firing a Projectile
• For this method, you need to use a small-caliber, low-power gun or air rifle; anything more powerful and you risk shooting your eye out like Mikey from A Christmas Story. They also cause other issues like a bigger mess (EW!) and greater health hazards. 12fpe air guns with a .177 caliber are considered the most appropriate.

When taking the shot, make sure that the rodent is in a clear line of sight. They are easier critters to corner. Ensure the environment is clear; don’t do this around children and make sure no people are in your path. Try to shoot the rodent in the head; this will kill the rat instantly. Happy hunting, partner!
